Brief Description of Education & Experience
Over the past three years, I have served as NAGPRA Repatriation Compliance Chair, supervising volunteers, students, and organizational personnel during the inventory, documentation, analysis, and repatriation of archaeological collections and human remains. This work required independent evaluation of collections records, provenience information, historical documentation, and consultation input; coordination with Tribal Nations and organizational leadership; oversight of inventory development and collections documentation; and management of compliance-related responsibilities.
This experience is supported by extensive undergraduate and graduate training in archaeology, history, philosophy, and Indigenous studies, including specialized coursework in cultural resource management, archaeological law and ethics, public archaeology, historical archaeology, pre-Columbian archaeology, environmental archaeology, osteology, geoarchaeology, GIS, archaeological theory, and lithic analysis. Graduate studies culminated in original thesis research examining lithic raw material use and procurement in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, identifying factors that complicate archaeological interpretations of Indigenous landscapes. This work provided advanced training in lithic analysis, archaeological interpretation, research design, data analysis, and professional archaeological practice.
